Light therapy dates back as far as ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman times. Even then people noticed how much benefit it had on their overall health and skin. LED lights have many different wavelengths that deliver energy to your skin, which actually makes changes in your cells that produce visible results. The Lightwave topical light infusion treatment that I recently did uses red, infrared, and blue light depending on what your specific concerns are.
I chose to do the antiaging treatment which starts with a dose of red light. Red light stimulates collagen production which is what gives our skin its volume and youthful appearance. As we lose collagen and fat we start to see deep lines and wrinkles. Starting to intervene before you rapidly lose collagen will help prevent the visible signs of aging. Red light also helps to increase blood flow to the skin and provides it with the nourishment it needs to look and feel revived.
At first, it was a little uncomfortable having that bright red light so close to my face, even with the goggles. But soon I started to relax and enjoy that fact that I was getting 25 minutes of peace. I decided to focus on my breathing which nearly put me to sleep while the lights were doing all of the work.
Once the red light was completed, the technician applied a mask. It wasn’t a messy mask like you sometimes get during a facial treatment. It was almost a rubber mask but it was infused with all sorts of goodies. My mask had: Peptides – signal the skin to repair itself, hyaluronic acid – hydrates and pulls moisture to the skin, vitamin c- a powerful antioxidant that protects your skin from free radicals like pollution, and collagen – which aids in lifting sagging tissues. They have several options to choose from and they customize for your concerns whether you are fighting pigment, acne, or aging.
Once the mask is on, a blue light is turned on that pulses 1000x per second which pushes the product deep into the skin. The blue light is really calming and relaxing but at this point, the goggles were pressing into my eye and it was getting uncomfortable. When the treatment was done my skin felt nice and cool. I would say my skin looked fabulous and refreshed for about 48 hours immediately post procedure. It’s hard to say what long-term results look like since I only did the one treatment.
Overall this is a nice option for someone who is on the go! 30 minutes was all it took and it was nice escaping from the hustle and bustle of the world. The treatments are extremely affordable as well. Ongoing treatments are always recommended, there are no permanent treatments because we age every day. I think it’s worth a try if you are looking for something that has minimal downtime, is quick, and isn’t going to break the bank.
You can find a provider on the Lightwave website and give it a try! Let me know which treatment you did and if you noticed a big difference.
